Back to the USA

4-14   Morning came and again the wind was the same and up went the spinnaker. Again we sailed all day and decided to go further due to the ongoing wind. We spent 3 hours of the night off anchored off Memory Rock in 12 feet of water just a couple hundred yards from over 5000 feet of water. While setting the anchor I peered down in the water with my headlamp attached and noted all kinds of sea life swimming around beneath us. The sight reminded me of an old time movie reel running as my light illuminated a small spot of water below to reveal crabs swimming along at the surface and other creatures that I can only say looked like large mosquitos that glowed in the dark water. There was much more odd looking sea life moving about below that I wish I knew what they were, I guess I need to bring a marine biologist with me next time.  Pictures from Spanish Wells Budda Shack not published due to poor internet Budda Himself Girls at

Eleuthera and Abaco

4/2   Today at 11:00 we left Cape Eleuthera Marina for Rock Sound Eleuthera. Karen and I loved the marina, they had fast internet, great showers and laundry facilities. The one downside is that it is very far from any town and much of the area was empty. Someone had built the buildings for restaurants, bars and houses but the people never came. This is true of many areas we’ve seen in the Bahamas, overbuilt resorts with no people. We arrived in Rock Sound, dropped anchor and had lunch after mostly motor-sailing the whole way. Shortly after we dropped anchor we noted three boats around us leaving. We thought they left due to poor holding or didn’t like our proximity. After speaking with others who stayed we discovered that all of the Bahamas are having a homecoming fest and the boats that left wanted to be further away from the loud music. They have this every year at this time and the town will shutdown for the Easter weekend and it will be a non-stop music and food fest. People

Exuma Land and Sea Park

3-26   While sailing there is one thing that rules your life, weather. This is the first cold front we’ve had blow into the Bahamas since we’ve been here, that’s 33 days. We were looking for places to anchor and hideout and ended up last night between Big Majors and Little Majors Islands. It was very protected but the currents and surges from the tides made the anchorage interesting, kinda like being on a spinning carnival ride. Luckily Karen put our name in at the Exuma Land and Sea Park and we got the call via scratchy VHF radio this morning. A British couple on SV Spindrift notified us that the Park was calling us. Spindrift has a mast that is about 15 feet higher than Mango and they heard the park calling us when our radio was not picking up the transmission. We thank them very much. We sailed all the way up to the park under jib and whisker pole only at 5 to 7 knots in 17 to 22 knots of wind. We snaked through the narrow channel and picked up our mooring like we knew wh
